Are you a graduate student in STEM seeking to develop skills that will lead to more inclusive, equitable, and productive research environments? Are you interested in developing lifelong learning and professional skills for success to be productive participants in the workforce?
The University of Ottawa, Carleton, Windsor and British Columbia are collaborating on the design of a course for trainees (graduate students and postdoctoral researchers) and new employees to strengthen their skills for success and further Canada’s strength and leadership in STEM. The course addresses five key areas: metacognition, project management, resilience, mentorship, and navigating difficult conversations.
As intended outcomes, we are seeking measurable improvements in skills in the targeted areas: increased feelings of support, increased confidence, empowered trainees, and reduced imposter syndrome. We will be using our evaluation findings to continually improve our approaches.
